Due to heavy rainfall, water has risen in the river bank areas. Meanwhile, 5 district administration and water development board have made all preparations to deal with the situation.


According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, the water level of all the rivers, including the Teesta River in Rangpur region, is rising due to the heavy rains of the last few days and the downpours from India. Teesta water is flowing 18 cm above danger level at Dalia Point. If the water continues to rise, there is a risk of flooding in the districts of Rangpur division.


According to information received from the Water Development Board, Teesta water is flowing two centimeters above the boundary line. A water flow of 52.17 cm was recorded at Teesta's Dalia Point on Sunday morning. All the cupboards of the barrage have already been opened.

According to the District Commissioner's office, 17 thousand 350 families in four of the 5 upazilas of the district have become waterlogged.

Nazim Uddin of Mahishkhochha of Aditmari Upazila said, 'My house has been submerged in Teesta water. I have now taken refuge on the street with my family.'


Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner HM Rakib Haider said, 'District, Upazila and Water Development Board authorities are keeping an eye on the overall flood situation. Already, 13 lakh taka and 90 metric tons of rice have been allocated as relief aid for the affected families.

More than 5000 families of 15 villages along the banks of Teesta in Dimla Upazila of the district have become waterlogged. There is panic among the people as the water is rising.

Upazila East Chatnai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Abdul Latif said, 'Flood water has entered the houses of about 1,200 families of this union.'

At 6 pm today, the water of Dharla river was flowing below 62 cm at Taluk Shimulbari point, 44 cm at Dudhkumar river Pateshwari point and 2.47 cm below Vipatseema at Brahmaputra river Chilmari point.


Rangpur

Lower areas including Char area of ​​Kaunia upazila of Rangpur have been flooded by Teesta water. 500 families of this upazila have become watertight. Teesta water crossed the limit at Kaunia Point on Saturday night.


At this point at 6 pm on Sunday, Teesta water was flowing 31 cm above the boundary line. Apart from Kaunia, flood forecasting and warning center Rangpur has advised the riverside people in Pirgacha and Gangachra upazilas to be careful.

Among the major rivers of the district, Teesta water has risen by 57 cm since Sunday morning and is flowing 31 cm above the boundary line. Other rivers continue to rise. The Yamuna, Teesta, Karatoa and Brahmaputra rivers in the district have been eroded along with the rising water.

 


Hafizul Haque, executive engineer of Gaibandha Water Development Board, said, "Even though the water level of almost all the rivers in the district is rising, the water of the others except Teesta is flowing below the boundary line. Even if the water rises, there is no danger of a major flood this time.'
