Before the start of every season of IPL, several cricketers are seen withdrawing from the tournament due to personal reasons. This trend is highest among foreign cricketers. They do this only if they do not get the desired price in the auction.

Franchise owners suffer due to such trend of foreign stars. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was practically forced to take strict measures to solve this problem.

The guidelines issued by the Indian Cricket Board ahead of the IPL 2025 auction clearly mention that if a cricketer withdraws before the start of the tournament after getting a team in the auction, he will not be able to play in the next 2 seasons of the IPL. Can't even participate in auctions while in exile.

In the last edition of IPL, several England cricketers withdrew from the tournament after the auction. Franchise owners are in trouble.

Kolkata Knight Riders' two British stars Gus Atkinson and Jason Roy withdrew from the Indian Premier League. Lucknow Super Giants' Mark Wood and David Willey stood down. Harry Brook of Delhi Capitals has announced that he will not come to play in the IPL. Rajasthan Royals' Australian star Adam Zampa also did not play in the IPL till the end.
