Sports Desk: The 'Ispahani 4th Bangladesh Open Squash' tournament is going to be held from October 1 at the Army Squash Complex in Dhaka Cantonment.
Like the last three years, the tournament will also have two international and one national competition.
The three trophies of the tournament were unveiled today (September 29) at the 'Meet the Press' function at the Dutch Bangla Auditorium in the capital's Olympic Bhavan.
Two tournaments will be held in this four-day international event sanctioned by Bangladesh Government as well as World Squash Federation and Professional Squash Association. One for men and the other for women.
This year Bangladesh's Simon and Aminul will play with professional squash players from India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Iran, Kuwait and New Zealand.
Besides, in the satellite tour organized for women, the best 6 women players of Bangladesh will play with the popular professional women player of Sri Lanka, Kuruppu.
The squash tournament sponsored by Ispahani will continue till October 4.
Meanwhile, the national level competition was organized in different groups with 90 selected players from 19 clubs/institutions including Rangpur, Chittagong, Gopalganj, Dhaka and Jhenaidah Cadet College.
Mohammad Sanaul Haque, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, was the Chief Guest of the meet the press and trophy unveiling ceremony.
Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation General Secretary Retired Brigadier General GM Kamrul Islam and General Manager of Ispahani Group Mr. Omar Hannan and other officials of Ispahani Group were also present.
In his welcome speech at the trophy unveiling ceremony, Omar Hannan thanked the organizers on behalf of Ispahani Group for being closely associated with an international tournament organized in Bangladesh.
Brigadier (retd) General Kamrul Islam in his speech thanked Ispahani Group for sponsoring such a big squash tournament.
He also said, by working tirelessly for the last three years with limited resources amid various limitations and adversities, we have started the journey of glory forward by reviving the dying squash game of Bangladesh. If we get the cooperation of all concerned and the complex proposed by Banani, we will achieve glory with medals for the country through squash.'
Note that Ispahani is always trying to increase the popularity of squash in Bangladesh. Earlier also Ispahani has sponsored other tournaments of Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation. Also, Ispahani always sponsors cricket, football, basketball, chess, golf and other sports.
