Jumbangla Desk: Two retired army personnel were beaten and hacked twice for stopping the drug trade in Barisal's Agailjhara. The seriously injured were rescued and admitted to Upazila Health Complex. The incident took place at Goila Bazar in Agailjhara Upazila of Barisal around 9:30 pm on Sunday.

The injured are Zahidul Islam (45), son of Shah Alam Bali of Kalupara village, retired army man and his brother Zakirul Alam (39). Zahidul Alam, a retired army man undergoing treatment in the hospital, complained that Roksana Begum, a tenant of Razzak Sardar's house, and her two sons, Nafis Sardar and Piyal Sardar, have been selling drugs in the area for a long time. The family got mad at me for stopping them from selling drugs.

On Sunday night, I was sitting in front of a shop in Goila Bazar and talking to the traders. Meanwhile the drug dealer Roksana and his two sons Nafis and Pial attacked me from behind and beat me and broke my leg. On the way to rescue me and take me to the hospital, they attacked me for the second time. Meanwhile, my other brother Army member Zakirul Islam (LPR) came forward to protect me and he was also hacked and injured by Nafis and Pial. Complaining, he further said that when our two injured brothers were rescued and taken to Agiljhara Health Complex, the drug family tried to attack there as well. I am undergoing treatment in another hospital to save my life to escape the attack.


In this regard, the accused Roksana and her two sons tried to contact their mobile phones but could not get their statements as their phone numbers were switched off. In this regard, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Agailjhara Police Station said. Alam Chand said that the police visited the spot after receiving a complaint of beating and hacking two retired army personnel for stopping the drug trade. Action will be taken against the accused subject to investigation.

Agailjhara police station OC Md Alam Chand said that a case was filed against five people at the police station on Monday morning. The arrested has been sent to court. An operation is underway to arrest the other accused in the case.


On the other hand, in Kattaksthal village of Gournadi upazila of Barisal, two drug dealers including yaba and ganja were arrested and handed over to the police by the initiative of youth society. After filing a case under the Narcotics Control Act at the police station against those arrested, they have been sent to court.


Local residents said that on Saturday night, the members of Charghata Yuva Samaj of Dakshin Kattaksthal village of Barthi Union of the upazila set a watch to catch drug dealers. Meanwhile, drug dealer Sohel Sardar, son of Aziz Sardar of Cuttaksthal village and Shubo Mandal, son of Sunil Mandal of Tarakupi village, were arrested with 700 pitches of Yaba and half a kilogram of Gazza. Later, the arrested were handed over to the police station.

 

Gournadi Model Police Station OC Md. Yunus Mia said that those arrested have been sent to court after being arrested in a drug case.
