SAF Bangladesh and DAE will work to promote water saving technology

JUMBANGLA DESK : Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Bangladesh (SAF Bangladesh) and Directorate of Agricultural Extension (DAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (LOA) at the DAE headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday (September 29).
The partnership aims to promote water saving technologies in agriculture in one of the most water-stressed Barendra regions of Bangladesh.
The partnership will implement the Water Efficient Technology (IWET) project in Varendra region in collaboration with the 2030 Water Resources Group (2030 WRG) and funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation. The project will mainly work on expansion of AWD and drip irrigation.
The project will work to extend AWD system to 10,000 (ten thousand) hectares of paddy fields. These technologies will not only ensure efficient use of water but also reduce methane emissions and advance climate resilient agriculture efforts.
The agreement was signed by the Executive Director of SAF Bangladesh Mr. Farhad Jamil and the Director General of DAE Mr. Tajul Islam Patwari. Mr. Dr. SM Hasanuzzaman, Project Director of Agricultural Development Project of Rajshahi Division was present. He said that under this agreement, his team will work to expand these technologies in eight upazilas of Rajshahi, Naogaon and Chapainawabganj districts.
The agreement signing ceremony was attended by 2030 WRG/World Bank Group representatives Mahadi Hasan, Syeda Sitwat Shahed and Dr. Emdadul Haq and they emphasized the importance of public-private partnership in addressing the water crisis.
On behalf of SAF Bangladesh, Mr. Abdur Rauf and Krishna Gopal Sen were present and discussed the current initiatives and future goals of the project.
Note that the Sustainable Agriculture Foundation (SAF) was formerly known as the Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA). It is a Switzerland-based international non-profit development organization that has been contributing to agricultural development in Asia and Africa for the past 40 years. SAF Bangladesh has been working for the development of agriculture and small farmers in Bangladesh since 2011.
