Jumbangla Desk: The upstream hill slope and continuous heavy rains of the last few days caused the water to flow 31 cm above the danger level at Kaunia Point of Teesta. Although the Teesta water has started to decrease again without lasting for 24 hours. And as the water recedes, the risk of erosion has appeared in several parts of Teesta's Gangachra, Kaunia and Pirgacha upazilas. The residents of Tistapar are spending their days in worry.

Water has decreased in Teesta

According to the Water Development Board sources, the height of water flow was recorded at 51.70 cm at Dalia Point of Teesta at 9 am on Monday (September 30). That is, the water is flowing below 45 centimeters (52.15 centimeters) of the boundary. At the same time, the height of water flow was recorded as 29.25 cm at Kaunia Point of the river. That is, at this point, water is flowing below 6.6 centimeters of latitude (29.31 centimeters of latitude).

Locals said that the flow of Teesta water started increasing from last Friday due to the torrential rains coming down from India and continuous rains for a few days. At Dalia Point, around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, the flow of Teesta water was flowing 1/2 cm above the danger line. At the same time, water flows over 10.16 cm at Kaunia Point on the Teesta. As a result, the Char area of Teesta and the lower areas of the left bank were flooded and thousands of families were trapped in water. The farmer's crops sink, the fish in the pond float away. The water has been flowing over the danger zone since Saturday night, but the water has started receding since Sunday night. Meanwhile, although the flow of Teesta water has decreased, there is a new threat of river erosion.

Ajmal and Jasim Mia, residents of Charganai area on the banks of the Teesta in Madhupur Union of Kaunia, said that the water has started coming down since Sunday. The water is also moving away from the house. Even though the water has reduced, there is a new fear of erosion. Every year our crop land is going into the stomach of the river. Maybe it will go away this time too. I am worried about this. So no more assurances, I am demanding the implementation of the Teesta Maha Plan.

Nitai Chandra, another resident of the locality, said that the water suddenly started coming upstream from Friday. As a result, the water in the river increases. From Saturday night, the water rises. But now it has started to decrease.

Mohammad Rashedin, deputy engineer of Dalia Paubo, said that the flow of water in the Teesta increased due to the upstream flood and rainfall. The Teesta water has crossed the danger level but is now receding. An attempt is being made to control the water by opening 44 gates of Teesta Barrage.

At birth, there are 300 bones, then 206, so where do the remaining 94 bones go?

Rabiul Faisal, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur, said that people were trapped in many areas due to the rise of water in Teesta due to the few days of rain and the flow of upstream. It has decreased since last night. The district administration is providing relief assistance to the water-affected families through the local administration.
