Cyber Act cases are being withdrawn, those arrested are being released

Jumbangla Desk: The government has decided to quickly withdraw the speech offense cases filed under the Cyber Act. Moreover, if anyone is arrested in these cases, he will also be released immediately through the legal process.

Regarding the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006; A total of 5818 cases under the Digital Security Act, 2018 and Cyber Security Act, 2023 are pending in 8 Cyber Tribunals of the country till August, 2024.
Among the cases, cases filed due to free expression through digital media are identified as 'speech offences' and fraud through computer hacking or any other digital device as 'computer offences'.
At present, a total of 1340 cases related to speech offenses are pending, out of which 461 cases are under investigation by investigating agencies and 879 cases are under trial in 8 cyber tribunals of the country.
Among the cases related to speech offences, 279 under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 786 under the Digital Security Act and 275 under the Cyber Security Act are pending.

The current government has decided to withdraw the cases related to speech offenses quickly. Among the 1340 cases related to speech offences, 879 pending cases will be withdrawn quickly through the coordination of the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Home Affairs. 461 cases under investigation will be directed to the investigating officer for speedy disposal by submitting the final report.
Anyone arrested in these cases will be released immediately through this process.
