Chittagong Correspondent: An hour-long chase took place when madrasa students and the army faced off at Patia town center due to a Hindu youth insulting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Traffic on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway was stopped for about two hours.

From Monday morning till evening, the angry students surrounded the Patia police station demanding the hanging of the slanderer. It is said that about 20 people were injured in the chase.

It is known that last Sunday night, Partha Pratim Biswas Pintu (21), son of Sumon Biswas of Kurangiri village of Shobhandandi Union of the upazila, commented on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on his Facebook ID against the Facebook comment of Hasan Ali. Pintu made this comment during an argument between Hasan Ali and Pintu. When Hasan Ali deleted his comment and shared Pintu's comment on Facebook, there was a stir among religious people. People put pressure on the police to arrest Pintu. On Sunday night, DB Police arrested Pintu from Motherbari area of Chittagong city, fearing that the situation in the area would worsen.

At 10 am on Monday, the DB police took him to the Patia police station and first surrounded the police station with some coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement. After receiving this news, at 12 noon, the students of Patia Madrasa surrounded the police station demanding the police to hand over Pintu to them.

As the news of the police station siege spread, the students of Patia Al Jamia Al Islamia Zamiria Madrasa, which is adjacent to the police station, also came to the police station. Around 3 pm, the agitators entered the police station and started shouting slogans. Later, when an army vehicle entered the police station, the agitators came out of the police station and took position on the road and stopped traffic by barricading in front of Rahat Ali High School.

Meanwhile, another army vehicle was stopped by the police on its way to the bus station in front of the police station and attacked and pelted with shoes. In a video shared on social media, the car can be seen reversing towards the police station junction. Enraged students threw brickbats at the army vehicle. A large number of madrasa students came to the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway and blocked the road after getting the news that there was a clash with the army. After blocking the road from 2.30 am to about 4 am, when the rain started, the madrasa students left the road and went to the madrasa. At 5:30 p.m., seeing the students gather again in front of the police station, the army personnel chased them with batons.

Officer-in-charge of Patia police station Abu Zayed Md. Nazmun Noor said that young Partha Biswas Pintu, who insulted the Prophet (PBUH), has been arrested. A case will be filed against him and he will be sent to jail. He said that they will investigate who surrounded the police station.
