Craig Stephens, a member of the research team, said, "For a while, we thought there might be a problem with our camera." But when we looked more closely, we saw a swarm of 5 mm arthropods.

He added, "We checked other parts of the ice shelf and thought things around us were under control." But what I saw there, I was shocked.
