He said this in a message on Monday (September 30) on the occasion of 'International Day of Older Persons' today, Tuesday (October 1).


This year the theme of the day is 'Ageing with Dignity: Strengthening Elderly Care and Support Systems Globally'.

Sahabuddin said that the number of elderly people in Bangladesh is increasing day by day like the rest of the world due to the advancement of medical science and development of socio-economic conditions. Article 15 (d) of the Constitution of Bangladesh mentions building a strong care and support structure for the growing elderly population.


He said that the 'National Elderly Policy' and the 'Parental Maintenance Act, 2013' have been formulated to ensure a dignified, poverty-free, functional, healthy and secure family and social life for the elderly.


The President said that old-age allowance is being given to provide social security to the elderly and 8 old-age homes have been set up for the elderly without shelter and relatives.


He said that the stakeholders should try to use modern information technology to ensure the proper welfare of the elderly population and that they can get the facilities of digital technology and technical equality.

He said, to uphold the family and social values ​​of Chirayat Bengal, I call for the development of an elderly-friendly culture at all levels of society, including public and private institutions.


The President said that many age-related physical and mental problems occur in old age, including loneliness and isolation. It is very important for the government as well as various private philanthropic organizations and rich people to come forward so that this respected and respected group of the society can live a beautiful life in their old age. Besides, effective initiatives must be taken to prevent the degradation of family and social values ​​in creating an elderly-friendly society.


He wished good health, peaceful and dignified lives to the world's senior citizens and wished success in the celebration of 'International Day of Older Persons-2024'.
