'Silent Zone' around Shahjalal Airport from today

Jumbangla Desk: Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and the one and a half kilometer road in front of it will be a silent area from Tuesday (October 1). The airport authority has taken the initiative to stop the use of single-use plastic from this day. There will be a mobile court in the field to implement the initiative. The transport drivers say that along with the campaign, everyone's sincere cooperation is needed.

Tilottama city is the busiest Gazipur-Mahakhali road in Dhaka. This entrance of the capital is always full of traffic. This time the initiative to silence the road is the Civil Aviation Authority (BABICHAK).

Considering the overall environment and public health of the airport, it has been decided to stop honking on the one and a half kilometer road from La Meridien Hotel on the airport premises and the front road to the Scholastica campus in Uttara from October 1. Single use plastic will be stopped. The joint mobile court will be conducted for 7 days to implement the directive.

Shahjalal International Airport Executive Director Group Captain Md. Kamrul Islam told Saham Sangbad, we want to include the awareness of car drivers by announcing a horn-free environment . As a habit, the horn should be played less. Through this, the pollution in the environment will be reduced. That is why our efforts will continue.

Even before this, various important points of the capital have been declared as silent areas. However, it is not effective in practice, according to environmentalists.

The silence area will be enforced at three points of one and a half kilometers by the Magistrate Team of Environment Department, Airport and BRTA. Department of Environment in front of La Méridien, Babychock in front of airport roundabout, BRTA at Scholastica Point.
