BNP leader arrested by the army is in jail

Jumbangla Desk: BNP leader Ataur Rahman, who was arrested in the operation of joint forces in Sonargaon of Narayanganj, has been sent to jail.

When brought to court on Sunday (September 29) afternoon, Senior Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali's court rejected the bail application of the accused's lawyers and sent them to jail.

Earlier, Ataur Rahman was arrested from his home in Habibpur of the upazila at 7 am on Sunday. Ataur Rahman is Joint General Secretary of Sonargaon Thana BNP and General Secretary of Mogarpara Union BNP.

Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Abdur Rashid said, 'A person named Ataur Rahman, who was arrested in the operation of joint forces from Sonargaon, has been sent to jail. Various allegations have been made against him to the joint forces. He has been arrested in view of that complaint.'

Residents said that Ataur Rahman has been accused of extortion, land grabbing and fraudulent business of various factories in Mograpara Crossroads area.
