Sports Desk: The Governing Council of IPL has brought major changes in the rules before 2025 IPL. Several decisions have been made about the auction, the tournament as well.

Most of the decisions are auction-centric. Let's take a look at the decisions taken in yesterday's meeting-

1. Each franchise can retain 6 players from the current squad. The team can do that by using retention and right to match cards. Franchises are allowed to retain a maximum of five players for retention purposes while calculating player retention, and a maximum of two players in the 'uncapped Indian' quota.

If an Indian cricketer retires from international cricket before five years, or if a cricketer does not get a chance in the national team for five years in international cricket or is not on a central contract, he will also move to the 'uncapped' quota. But this rule will only apply to Indians.

2. The salary cap of the auction was earlier Rs 100 crore, this time it has been increased to Rs 20 crore. But if a team retains 5 players, it will come down to Rs 45 crore during the auction.

The teams will be able to spend 146 crore rupees together with auction purse and salary increase as usual. In 2026 auction the number will be 151 crore, in 2027 auction it will stand at 157 crore.

3. Impact players are being retained.

4. Match fee will be paid for the first time. Each player has to pay the teams Rs 7.5 lakh per match. As a result, the players will earn more than 1 crore rupees if they play all the matches every season. However, this amount will not reduce the salary cap of the teams, it will remain separate.

5. All foreign players must be entered in the auction unless the team is retained. Otherwise, he will not be able to register his name in the next auction.

6. If a player is named in the auction but does not play in the IPL, then that player will be banned for that season and the next IPL.
