Heavy traffic congestion in Gazipur highway due to workers' protest

Jumbangla Desk: Garment factory workers are protesting by blocking Dhaka Mymensingh Road in Chandana Chowrasta area of Gazipur.
From Tuesday (October 1) morning, workers of several garment factories stopped work in factories and blocked the highway.
When the protest started in the intersection area from the morning, traffic jam was created for 9 km on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways from Chandna intersection.
It is known that the owner gave a notice to the workers of Deluxe Fashion Limited factory in Chowrasta area of Gazipur and closed the factory. The workers protested because of non-payment of three months' arrears.
On Tuesday morning, the workers went to several nearby factories and called upon the workers to stop work and join their movement. At one point several factories around the Chandana Chowrasta area gave leave to workers to avoid chaos.
Later, the workers of several factories came to Dhaka Mymensingh highway and blocked the road, at which time all traffic on the highway was stopped . Due to traffic congestion on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, several kilometers of severe traffic jam was created.
Gazipur Industrial Police SP Sarwar Alam said that the industrial police is working to remove the garment factory workers who are blocking the highway from the highway. On receiving the news, the army personnel came to the spot and talked to the workers.
Basan Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jahangir Alam said that the workers have been protesting and blocking the road since Monday night due to their salary demands. We are continuing to discuss the workers' demands with the factory authorities along with members of the industrial police and the army. Hope the problem will be solved soon.
