The term allergy is well known to us. We often say, I'm allergic to that stuff. But many people don't have a clear idea of what allergies are or why they happen. Allergy means our hypersensitivity to a particular substance. That substance can be food, something that has come into contact with the skin, or inhaled through the nose, or a drug or injection.
Allergy control
Medically, this is called a type one hypersensitivity reaction. The substance that causes an allergic reaction is called an allergen or antigen. When an allergen first enters or comes into contact with the body, antibodies of the 'Ig E' type are produced against it in the blood. Blood T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, mast cells, basophils etc. cells recognize that object. This is called sensitization.
Later, whenever the body comes in contact with that particular allergen, the cells become overactive and produce special chemicals to destroy the allergen. Important chemicals are histamine, leukotrienes, cytokines, prostaglandins, platelet activating factor etc.
These chemicals are capable of causing various reactions in different parts of the body. In particular, they increase the permeability of blood vessel walls or enlarge the pores. As a result, the fluid inside the blood vessel comes out and accumulates. Muscles of blood vessels and other organs contract. Profuse discharge of mucous or sticky fluid. These reactions cause specific symptoms.
What happens if you have an allergy?
Allergic reaction causes chemical changes in the body, resulting in runny nose, watery eyes, red eyes and nose, red, itchy skin or rash, throat discomfort or cough, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, loose stools, etc. may be Even severe hypersensitivity reactions can lead to unconsciousness, low blood pressure and heart rate, and death. This condition is called anaphylactic shock.
Allergic reactions like asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, allergic conjunctivitis, urticaria, hay fever, drug reaction, food allergy etc. It is not unusual for someone with one type of allergy to have another type. If there are others in the family, the risk of this problem is higher.
What is an allergy?
Can be allergic to any particular substance. Everyone is allergic to different things. But in general, dust, spider webs, dust mites or small particles in the house, animal hair, flower pollen, insect remains, carpet or clothing fibers act as allergens. May be allergic to a particular food. Such as seafood or sea-food, nuts, eggs, brinjal etc. An allergy to a particular drug, antibiotic or injection may occur. Allergies can also occur after a blood transfusion.
What should those who have allergies do?
Those who are allergic to a particular substance, after a few days understand which substances are their enemies. That object should be avoided. For example, those who are allergic to seafood should not eat it. Those who are allergic to dust, do not sweep the house, wear a mask in dusty places. If one is allergic to any particular medicine, it must be reported to the doctor. In this way, you will build resistance around yourself.
However, if exposure to an allergen triggers symptoms, prompt administration of antihistamine-like drugs, steroids if necessary. Steroids and bronchodilator inhalers should be used in case of shortness of breath or asthma. Steroid injections or antihistamine injections may be given if necessary. If someone loses consciousness, begins to have severe breathing difficulties, and the blood pressure and heart rate become weak, then it should be understood that anaphylactic shock is occurring. In that case, the patient should be admitted to the hospital and given treatment.
Allergies will never get better
Generally, those who have allergy problems are called atopic individuals. There is often a family history of allergies. This is their special tendency. This problem will never be completely cured. However, it can be controlled through treatment and awareness. Allergies are currently being treated with various types of immunotherapy. De-sensitization with immunotherapy is more effective in young adults.
