Farmers are turning to sack method of vegetable cultivation due to lower cost and more profit in waterlogged and fallow land. Farmers are benefiting by cultivating vegetables commercially in this method. Due to the good yield and huge demand of these vegetables in the market, the farmers are motivated day by day to grow vegetables.

Now the farmers are busy in marketing the various vegetables produced by sack method. And in this method, the agriculturalists see immense potential in vegetable cultivation.

Farmer Mantosh Biswas said, I have benefited by cultivating vegetables in this way on my fallow land. With the help of Upazila Agriculture Department, 35 sacks and 7 DP system have been spent on 7 to 8 thousand rupees for vegetable cultivation. Vegetables worth 15-16 thousand rupees have already been sold. Expecting to sell more vegetables worth 25 to 30 thousand rupees.


About the cultivation method, he said, at the beginning of the sack method of cultivation, a mixture of 30 kg of soil with a quantity of organic fertilizers, manure and chemical fertilizers is filled in sacks and raised to a height of about three feet. After a few days, various types of vegetables are sown or planted in it, including gourd, chichinga, gourd, bitter gourd, zhinge, puishak, chilli, ginger, barbati, sweet pumpkin, garlic and papaya.

A bamboo chali or loft is made 4 to 6 feet above the sack and DP. The vine leaves of various vegetables are growing on the nets woven with ropes on the chali and various types of vegetables are hanging there.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Milton Biswas said that under the agricultural development project of seven districts, including Greater Barisal, vegetable cultivation has been started with all techniques and incentives including the distribution of necessary materials.
