Sagar-Rooney murder, 9 lawyers were allowed to assist the state party

Jumbangla Desk: The court has allowed 9 lawyers, including Supreme Court lawyer Shishir Monir, to handle the case in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque's court gave this order on Tuesday (October 1) in view of the application of Nowsher Ali Roman, the plaintiff's brother, Rooney.
Apart from Shishir Monir, other lawyers are Advocate Mujahidul Islam, Mizanul Haque, Mostafa Jamal, Abu Rasel, Mohiuddin, Abdullah Al Farooq, Iqbal Hussain and Mottakin Hussain.
Earlier on Monday (September 30) in the same court, the plaintiff requested the appointment of 9 lawyers to assist the state party in this case. After the hearing, the court fixed today to hear the matter in the presence of the plaintiff. It is said in the petition that the victim journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney were brutally killed by unidentified accused at their residence on February 11, 2012. The case has been under investigation for 12 years but no investigation report has been submitted.

The petition further states that there is no progress in the case even after a long time has passed. In the interest of speedy disposal of the case and justice, the plaintiff must hire a lawyer at his own expense to assist the public prosecutor of the state.
Meanwhile, the court has removed RAB from the responsibility of investigating the case of murder of Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney.
The writ was heard on Monday in a High Court bench headed by Justice Farah Mahbub.

On this day, the High Court said, RAB was removed from the investigation of this murder. It has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government can conduct an investigation through a task force consisting of experienced, qualified people from various agencies.
