Awami League
Many want to talk about the future of Awami League as a political party. There is an example of banning political parties in Bangladesh, so a strong argument can be made for banning Awami League. There are several important arguments in favor of immediately banning the Awami League as a fascist party. We need to consider those arguments from both a legal and a political point of view. In that case, just as we should analyze the matter in the light of European experience and the example of banning fascist parties in Europe, we must also strictly judge the role of Awami League since independence. But it should be remembered that Awami League alone is not only fascist, there are various secular and religious fascist trends in the social and political reality of Bangladesh. Dealing with them is very important.
We should have started this discussion long ago. But the Awami favoritism and weakness of the advisory government are creating deep doubts that in fact sustaining and rehabilitating the Awami-fascist power has become their main task. It is clear that under a fascist constitution, a fascist president takes an oath to uphold the fascist constitution. Moreover, we have repeatedly called for the immediate formation of a 'National Commission' to settle national differences and establish justice on the model of Nelson Mandela's 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission'. It can be any name. I have repeatedly said that in my various speeches. But apart from the original commission, the advisory government is imposing various commissions, in which the miscreants are continuing the chaos and anti-people activities. This cannot be accepted.
Why Awami League should be immediately banned as a fascist party, we can consider some important arguments in the light of European experience.
1. Suppression of Democratic Institutions and Political Opposition
A fundamental characteristic of fascist parties is to destroy democratic institutions and establish a dictatorial fascist regime. Under the Awami League government, repressive activities on the independent judiciary, election commission and media have increased in Bangladesh. The foundations of democracy in Bangladesh have been severely damaged by measures such as preventing the opposition from participating in elections, suppressing and suppressing media freedom, and arresting or torturing opposition parties and critics.
In Europe—such as Germany and Italy—fascist parties were banned for such political behavior, as they aimed to destroy democracy and eliminate political opposition. In Bangladesh, the Awami League government has similarly oppressed opposition parties and is trying to exclude opposition parties from politics. Therefore, without banning Awami League, it will never be possible for us to establish democracy.
2. Political violence and state repression
The Awami League government has routinely used law enforcement and party cadres to suppress opposition parties, particularly the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Such violence and torture is against democratic politics and considered as a sign of domination and rule by fascist forces. This fascist force is still active and can take advantage of public anger protests to resurface and subvert the democratic aspirations of the people.
One of the main reasons why fascist parties were banned in countries like Italy was to spread violence and political terror. Similarly, the Awami League government in Bangladesh is accused of spreading political violence, the way we ignore it - it could be suicidal for Bangladesh.
3. The unilateral control of fascist power over the state machinery and the constitutional concentration of power in the hands of one person make
the constitution of Bangladesh constitutionally dictatorial and fascist. A powerful constitution is bound to be a fascist. There is no alternative but to annul and throw away this constitution and start a new constitutional process. But the advisory government did not do that. There is no chance to reform the constitution. Awami League is using the fascist state apparatus for party interests and controlling the judiciary, law enforcement and administration. As a result, any atmosphere of democratic debate in Bangladesh has been systematically destroyed. Therefore, there is no option but to ban Awami League.
One of the reasons for banning the fascist party in Germany was the Nazi Party's monopoly on the state machinery and the fascist rule, with which the Awami League is no different. Even in the current situation of Bangladesh, there is no evidence that the absolute fascist dominance of Awami League has decreased.
4. Awami League's promotion of ethnic and religious discrimination
has led to a lack of security for minorities and the rise of fundamentalist forces, particularly over the Rohingya issue. When torture or persecution of minorities occurs in Muslim countries, it comes under the responsibility of the state. Such activities resemble the behavior of fascist parties, as fascist parties often incite racial or religious discrimination.
In France, therefore, parties that incite ethnic hatred or racial discrimination are banned, while in Bangladesh, the Awami League has played an active role in efforts to attack minority security and religious tolerance.
5. Violations of International Law and Human Rights
Various human rights violations have occurred under the Awami League government, including disappearances, extrajudicial killings and torture of political prisoners. These are clear violations of international human rights law and have condemned the Awami League internationally as a fascist party or force.
Fascist groups that violate human rights are banned in countries such as Austria and Germany. Because they were involved in massive war crimes and crimes against humanity. In Bangladesh too, the level of human rights violations is increasing alarmingly, to deal with which it is necessary to ban fascist parties and forces.
The main reason for banning fascist parties in Europe was the need to protect democracy and basic human rights. So is the reality of Bangladesh. Fascist parties are banned in Germany, Italy and Austria to prevent them from destroying the foundations of democracy and violating human rights. Similarly, an analysis of Awami League's activities in Bangladesh shows that they have destroyed the foundations of democracy, weakened it and undermined fundamental rights.
Then Awami League should be banned immediately. But that is not to be banned forever. All of us must go through a political process by immediately setting up a 'National Commission' on the model of Nelson Mandela's 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission' for the 'reconciliation of national differences and the establishment of justice' and at the base of the state freedom of thought and conscience, freedom of the individual and We can discuss dignity, importance of human rights and other important issues related to state formation.
