Yesterday Tuesday (October 1) this information was known by talking to several top level officials of Health Education and Family Welfare Department and Health Education Directorate.
A source in the Department of Health Education said that the policy made for admission in the academic year 2023-24 will be reformed. There have been initial discussions on several issues including determining the eligibility criteria for admission under the poor quota, giving an opportunity to the students to improve the quality of HSC, reducing the GPA marks. Matters can be finalized after the release of HSC and equivalent exam results.
If you want to know about this, Director of Health Education Department (Medical Education) Professor Dr. Mohiuddin Matubbar said, 'It is not possible to say whether there will be a change in the admission policy or not. We will sit in the meeting after the declaration of HSC results. Then the issues will be discussed in the stakeholders' meeting and a decision will be taken.'
An official of the Health Education and Family Welfare Department said on condition of anonymity that the students have several demands regarding the medical admission test. Considering these demands we are thinking about making some changes in the policy. But this is a very preliminary discussion. Matters will be finalized in the stakeholders' meeting.'
He said, "Recently, a representative group of students met the health advisor and presented their demands. The health advisor asked for consideration of the matter. We are positive about upgradation students exam opportunities. Hope the improvement students will get the exam opportunity.
In response to the question of when the admission test can be organized, the official further said, 'Generally, the medical admission test is organized within three months of the publication of the results of HSC and equivalent exams. As such, there is a high possibility of organizing the admission test in the month of January. But it is not final. Examinations may be arranged as directed by the Health Adviser.'
According to another source in the Ministry of Health, the biggest change in the medical admission test policy may come in the field of marks. 120 marks exam may be organized. In this case 100 marks will be on MCQ. And remaining 20 marks will be on GPA. But it was discussed very informally. No final decision has been made.
On the condition of anonymity, a top official of the Department of Health and Education said, 'Students have been complaining for a long time that their score is higher than GPA in the admission test. We have discussed the matter. We will bring it up in the admission committee meeting. Then the Ministry of Health will decide what it thinks is best.'
When asked about the distribution of GPA marks, he further said that the GPA obtained in the SSC examination will be multiplied by 1.5. And GPA score can be given by multiplying the GPA obtained in HSC by 2.5. However, this is an informal discussion. The ministry will take the final decision in this regard.
