International Desk: An emergency meeting has been called in the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East. The meeting was called shortly after Iran's missile attack on Israel.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday (02 October) at 10 am local time.

In a letter to the Security Council, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said that Iran is trying to destroy Israel. He urged the Security Council to condemn Iran and list the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a 'terrorist organisation'.

However, Iran claims that it has launched missile attacks on Israel in retaliation for Israeli massacres in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and for assassinations of Hamas, Hezbollah and IRGC leaders .

On Tuesday (01 October), Iran fired about 180 missiles at Israeli territory. There were no immediate reports of casualties in the attack. However, the Israeli government declared a state of emergency in the country. They take various security measures.

The Israeli security cabinet has taken refuge in an emergency bunker in the face of Iranian missile attacks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting there. At the end of the meeting, he warned Iran that a high price will be paid for a missile attack on Israel.

According to Al Jazeera, Netanyahu spoke for the first time hours after the Iranian attack. He was virtually holding a security cabinet meeting in an underground bunker in West Jerusalem.

Netanyahu said Iran made a big mistake and will pay a heavy price for it. Israel will strike its enemies anywhere in the Middle East; Be it Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen—anywhere, and the list could go on.

He said the Israelis will be retaliated at a time and place of their choosing. Of course, such words have been heard from Israel's military and political circles since the attack of Iran. They say that if Netanyahu directs a response, there will be a counterattack. However, this attack will not be allowed without reply.
