Jumbangla Desk: Shahadat Hossain, an employee of a private organization, bought a dozen brown eggs from the farm's chicken for 160 taka last Thursday from the capital's Kanthalbagan market. He bought eggs again yesterday Tuesday; But this time at 170 taka. In other words, the price of eggs increased by 10 rupees per dozen and 83 paisa per dozen in a span of six days.

The vendors say that the production of eggs in the farm has decreased due to excessive heat. Due to this the supply in the market has decreased. And due to reduced supply, the price of eggs has increased. Details from Prothom Alo's report-

Yesterday, it was found that in the capital's Agargaon Taltala, Mohammadpur Agricultural Market and Town Hall and Kanthalbagan market, brown eggs of the farm's chickens are being sold at 170 rupees per dozen. A week ago, the price of this egg was 160 rupees. On the other hand, farm chicken white eggs are also being sold at Tk 170 per dozen in most markets; In some places, however, 5 rupees are available. Last week white egg dozen was 155 to 160 rupees. That is, within a week, the price of both types of eggs increased by 10 rupees per dozen.

Hyder Hossain, an egg seller in the capital's Taltala market, said that the supply of eggs in the wholesale market is low. Because of this, eggs have to be bought at a higher price. As a result, the price of eggs has also increased at the retail level. Haider Hossain said that yesterday he bought eggs from the wholesaler for 13 taka per piece. Selling at Rs.14 each after adding transportation and depreciation charges. The price of each dozen stands at 168 rupees. However, in many cases, consumers have to buy at a price of up to 170 rupees.

Eggs are available at slightly lower prices in larger markets such as Karwan Bazaar. For example, brown eggs were sold at 165 taka and white eggs at 160 taka per dozen in Karwan Bazaar yesterday. Eggs were also sold at this price in Kaptan market.

The price of eggs in the market has been increasing for a long time. For example, on most days of last July, the price of a dozen eggs in the retail market was Tk 145 to Tk 150. Prices were roughly the same in August as well. However, the price of eggs increased in September. At the end of the month, the price of a dozen eggs went up to 170 taka. According to data from Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), a government agency that sells the product, the price of eggs has increased by more than 13 percent in the last one year.

Meanwhile, on September 16 , the Directorate of Agriculture Marketing decided the reasonable price of farm chicken eggs and broiler and golden chicken eggs . The price of each dozen eggs is fixed at 142 rupees. That is, now eggs are being sold at a price of Tk 23 to Tk 28 more per dozen than the reasonable price set by the government.

President of Bangladesh Egg Producers Association Taher Ahmed Siddiqui spoke about the increase in the price of eggs. He said that the production of eggs has decreased due to excessive heat after few days of rain. Because of this, the supply in the market has decreased and the price of eggs has increased.
