Jumbangla Desk: To keep the market normal during Durga Puja, the importers have increased the import of onion from India through Hili land port in Dinajpur. Where earlier 9 to 10 cars of onions were imported. Now it is being increased to 16 to 26 truckloads of onions.

During Durga Puja, import and export through the port will be closed for six consecutive days from October 9 to October 14. Importers said that onion import has been increased to keep the country's market normal. Meanwhile, the price of onion has decreased slightly due to the increase in imports.

According to Hili Customs sources, 1 thousand 198 tons of onions were imported in 42 Indian trucks through this port on September 29 and 30.

Last Tuesday (October 1), it was seen that the imported onions were sold at the price of 85 to 90 taka per kg two days ago, but on Tuesday it was reduced by 5 to 10 per kg and is being sold at the price of 75 to 80 kg. And domestic onion is being sold at the price of Tk 110 per kg reduced by Tk 10 per kg.

The importers of Hili land port said that the price of onion is decreasing in the retail market due to daily import of onion through Hili land port.

Abu Taher, a retail onion seller in Heli Bazaar, said, 'We are buying onions at low prices and selling them at low prices. A large quantity of onion is being imported through the port. So the price is coming down. On Tuesday, we are selling Indian onions at the rate of 75 to 80 taka per kg, which was an increase of 5 to 10 taka per kg two days ago.
