Jumbangla Desk: The court has banned the departure of 14 accused in the murder case of Abu Saeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University (Berobi), who was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement.

On Thursday (October 3), Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Amli Court (Tajhat) Judge Md. Asaduzzaman banned this. Earlier, on September 30, the investigating officer of the case had applied for a ban on the departure of the 14 accused.


The accused are- former DIG of Rangpur Range Abdul Baten, former Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Mohammad Moniruzzaman, general secretary of Berobi Chhatra League Shamim Mahfuz, office secretary Babul Hossain, organizational secretary Dhananjay Kumar Togar, former OC of Tajhat police station Rabiul Islam, in-charge of Berobi police outpost Bibhuti. Bhushan, Berobi Associate Professor Asaduzzaman Mondal, Associate Professor Moshiur Rahman, Proctor Office Officer Rabiul Hasan Russell, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Abu Maruf Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioner Al Imran Hossain, Assistant Police Commissioner Arifuzzaman and Berobi Chhatra League President Pomel. The panel lawyer of the case, Advocate Roknuzzaman Rokon, confirmed the matter and said that his brother Ramzan Ali has filed a murder case against 17 people including 30-35 unknown people as plaintiffs in the case of Abu Saeed's death. Which is being investigated by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Among the 17 accused, ASI Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy have already been arrested.


Besides, another accused former Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun was arrested in another case and is in jail. An application was filed seeking ban on the emigration of the other 14 accused accused of fleeing the country to avoid trial. A judge on Wednesday ordered the ban.

 


It is to be noted that Abu Saeed was shot dead during the student movement in front of Begum Rokeya University Gate No. 1 on July 16. He was one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
