On November 14, 2001, Professor AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury was elected as the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on the nomination of BNP. He resigned from the post of President on June 21, 2002 due to political reasons. Later, he founded a political party called Alternative Bangladesh on 8 May 2004.
