Soldiers fire on truckloads of migrants as they flee a military cordon in Mexico. There were 33 migrants in the truck, six of them died. 10 people were injured. This incident happened in the city of Huixtla. In this way, immigrants try to go to the United States. These migrants came from Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, Pakistan and India.
Mexico's defense ministry said the truck tried to evade a military patrol. Then the soldiers opened fire. They are determined to take strict action as per law. They are not willing to give any exemption to anyone who breaks the law.
It is not yet known which country those who died are from. The Ministry of Defense said that they are in contact with the concerned embassy.
The United Nations Migration Agency has expressed concern over the incident. They said the risk to migrants is increasing. So immigration should be applied through legal channels. Legal route should be followed. Then such incidents can be avoided.
Why did the soldiers fire?
This incident happened in the city of Huixtla. Migrants try to go to the United States through here. Because the number of cars on this road is very high. Among them, it is not easy to identify and catch the immigrants' cars.
Behind the truck were two cars similar to those used by the criminal gangs there.
The soldiers claimed that they heard explosions, so they opened fire. Four people died on the spot. Two died on the way to the hospital.
The Defense Ministry said the two soldiers who opened fire have been removed from the camp. They may be tried in a military court.
In 2021, Mexico's National Guard opened fire at the same location, killing a migrant.
The United States pressured Mexico to prevent more migrants from crossing the border.
Migrants try to enter the United States through Mexico. They mainly want to go to the US to escape financial hardship and violence. But the United States is now preparing for the presidential election. Now the number of migrants entering there has decreased slightly.
