A man named Hafez Syed Mahmudul Hasan aka Abdul Hannan (80) was killed by a mysterious assassin after returning home after offering Fajr prayers at Sunamganj's Chatak Mosque. The incident happened on Thursday morning at his sister's house.

Syed Abdul Hannan, locally known as Kabiraj, is the son of Syed Abdul Wahid of Bara Saidergaon village of Gobindganj-Saidergaon union of upazila. Villagers confirmed that he was single and lived alone in his sister's house in the same village.

Abdul Hannan's sister's family all live abroad. On this occasion, he was also in charge of the caretaker of that house.

According to local sources, the killer stabbed him when he returned home after Fajr prayer at the village mosque on Thursday morning. When relatives saw him lying in a bloody state on the balcony of the house, he was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Chatak Police Station OC Md. Gholam Kibria Hasan confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue.
