Gazipur City Corporation has always been without a proper guardian. The mayors and councilors of all the city corporations in the country were simultaneously removed after the interim government came to power after the dictator Hasina fled in a mass student uprising. The Divisional Commissioner was given the responsibility of Gazipur City Administrator. He has also been made Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Since then, the residents of this most important city outside of Dhaka have been 'parentless'. Civil services are being disrupted step by step, the city dwellers are suffering.

Since its establishment in 2013, no elected representative (mayor) has been able to complete the term in Gazipur City. Because of this, the desired development did not happen in Gazipur. The first mayor BNP's late vice-chairman Professor MA Mannan was arrested in a political case by conspiracy and the citizens of the city were deprived of civic services. Then Awami League Mayor Jahangir Alam left a part of the local Awami League vacant for half of the term. Jahangir was dismissed for almost two years. Zayeda Khatun, the independent mayor who won the last election, also failed to complete her term. The government removed him along with the mayors of 11 cities of the country.
After Hasina's escape, 76 general and reserved women councilors of 57 wards of Gazipur City were removed along with Mayor Zayeda Khatun due to political change. Mayor and Councilor posts have been given to government officials. However, although the Divisional Commissioner was given the responsibility as the City Administrator, he was later made the OSD. Civil services have come to a standstill.
City Corporation is the service organization of the country's largest city of 26 lakh people and about 11 lakh voters. Gazipur city with an area of about 392 square kilometers has two government hospitals, several private medical colleges, 10-12 bus stations, various banks and various public and private institutions. Apart from this, there are many educational institutions including National and Open University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Madrasah Teacher Training Institute. An Ordnance Factory, a Security Printing Press (Mint), Bangladesh Agriculture and Rice Research Institute, Telecommunication Staff College, Juvenile Development Centre, Kashimpur Central Jail, Telephone Industry Corporation, two railway junctions, a railway station, over 2 thousand garment factories, works More than 22 million workers. Moreover, the world's second largest gathering Biswa Ijtema was held at Tongi in Gazipur City Corporation area. Gazipur City, which is known as an economic zone, could not be freed from the clutches of corrupt people even in the long 11 years of its establishment.
Finally Zayda Khatun was removed and Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sabirul Islam was appointed administrator on August 19. As part of government reforms, the interim government later sacked 76 councilors from 57 elected wards. The new administrator Sabirul was made OSD before the start of the city's activities. Now the post of administrator is vacant. On the other hand, against 76 elected councilors, 17 officials of various government institutions are being replaced by those concerned who are trying to keep the city functioning.
2.6 lakh people of 8 metropolitan police stations of 57 wards of Gazipur City are being deprived of services due to removal, exemption and incumbency. There has been stagnation in all activities including development projects. People are deprived of civic services.
Amjad Hossain Molla, Councilor of Ward No. 41 of the city, said that the crowd of service candidates in front of the office is disappointing me every day. Where will they go?
Sipan, a resident of Ward No. 28, expressed his anger and said, "Our City Corporation is nothing but a name." Hasna Hena, a reserved woman councilor, said, "I am now unable to serve the people by asking for votes from door to door." Which is very painful.
Public relations officer of Gazipur City Corporation Lutfar Rahman told Jugantar that civic services are being disrupted. The post of City Administrator is also vacant due to OSD.
