To participate in the D-8 Summit of the Organization of Eight Muslim States held at the end of this year, the chief advisor of the interim government, Professor Dr. Egypt invited Muhammad Yunus.
Ambassador of Egypt to Bangladesh Omar Mohi Aldin Ahmed Fahmy extended this invitation during a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain on Wednesday. This was informed in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Organized by Egypt, the summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation will bring together the top leaders of 8 developing countries including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey.
On 15 June 1997, the D-8 group began its journey with the aim of increasing development cooperation among member countries through the Istanbul Declaration. The primary goals of D-8 were to strengthen the position of member states in the global economy, create new trade opportunities, increase participation in international decision-making processes and improve the standard of living of member countries.
Ambassador Fahmy reiterated Egypt's ongoing support to Bangladesh's development journey and expressed confidence in the nation's continued progress towards a brighter future.
