Ferdous Ara is a popular musician in the entertainment world. Who could not sing on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar for the last 15 years. Could not participate in any event. Many artists were blacklisted during the previous government due to dissent.

It was an unannounced list of artists who could perform on national radio and TV channels, and who could not. There was even a 'blacklist'. Popular Nazrul music artist Ferdous Arar was in that black list. This is what the artist said.

Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in the anti-discrimination student movement and fled to India. After this, Ferdous Ara again got the opportunity to participate in BTV and Betar programs after the political change. A few days ago a modern song sung by him was aired on BTV. The song 'I'm Like Me/You Stay Like You' written by Marzouk Russell has been praised by many after its release.

After all this time, how do you feel about the song being promoted through the state media? — Ferdous Ara said to such a question, after 15 long years, it feels great to be able to sing again on BTV, our institution of life. The role of this institution in creating artists is indescribable. But I don't know why I haven't been invited to any function for a long time. I heard that many artistes were banned from BTV-Betar because of politics. But I don't do politics. Why have I been deprived for so many years?

Dr. Ferdous Ara's husband was an important secretary during the BNP government. Rafiqul Muhammad. The followers of the previous government assumed that they were politically loyal to the BNP and the party. Due to this reason, many think that Ferdous Ara was not allowed to sing through the state media.

Regretfully, this artist said, if this happened because of my husband's job, is it a reason? My husband did not do any politics. What country do we live in? An artist cannot belong to any particular party. The artist sings for everyone - for all people.

After the interim government took over, Ferdous Ara started receiving invitations to government functions again. He was recently elected as a member of Nazrul Institute. Last week he was invited to a function of Bangladesh Betar. He participated in a program on Nazrul music there.

It should be noted that Ferdous Ara is known as a Nazrul Sangeet artist even though he sings all kinds of songs. This artist has been practicing music for more than four decades. He was awarded for singing Nazrul Sangeet at the folk music festival organized by the United Nations in Uzbekistan.

Ferdous Ara is a regular artist of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television. He is a part-time teacher in Dhaka University, a Nazrul Music instructor at Nazrul Institute, a judge in various competitions including music program presentation, writing, playback. In 2000, this artist established Surasaptak, a music institute in Humayun Road, Mohammadpur, Dhaka, for the proper practice of Nazrul and high-class music.
