Last Tuesday night, Iran launched an unprecedented missile attack targeting various installations of the occupying Israel. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said 90 percent of its missiles hit specific targets.
Iran claims that its own advanced hypersonic missile Fatah-1 was used in this attack.
The Iranian military revealed the weapon last year. It can travel 15 times faster than sound, they said. Moreover, it is capable of hitting missile defense systems.
However, military experts say that Iran has both cruise and ballistic missiles. In attacking Israel, Iran used ballistic missiles. But not all Iranian missiles are capable of hitting Israel due to the distance between the two countries.
They say that Iran has a short-range missile named Shahab-1. But this series of missiles is not capable of hitting Israel. Because its range is only 300 km. However, the distance between the two countries is more than 1 thousand kilometers by air. Another series of missiles called Fateh made by Iran has a range of 300-500 km. It is also not capable of hitting Israel.
Tehran has an advanced series of Shahab missiles in its arsenal. The range of which is around 500 kilometers. It is not possible to attack Israel with this. A series of missiles called Zulfiqar can reach close to Israel, but it is not possible to carry out a precision attack with them. Because its range is only 700 km.
Apart from this, Qiam-1 is a missile with a range of 50 kilometers more than Shahab-2 missile. It can hit a small part of Israel, but it cannot hit all of Israel. But the Shahab-3, the latest version of the Shahab series that Iran has, can easily hit Israel. Because its range is 2000 km. Not only Israel, this Iranian missile can target almost all countries in the Middle East. Analysts say that Iran used this missile in last Tuesday's attack.
While Iran has advanced missiles in its arsenal, Israel also has advanced air defense systems. But as various videos show, this defense did not work in that sense on Tuesday night. Iranian missiles hit Tel Aviv right.
Israel's air defense system is essentially a layered defense system. Which consists of Iron Dome, David's Sling and Aero System. Israel's Aero air defense system uses surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), or surface-to-air missiles. The range of missiles of this system is between 2000-2400 km. It can hit incoming ballistic missiles 100 km above the ground. Perhaps, this is the most sophisticated system in the world today.
Another layer of Israel's air defense system is called David's Sling. The range of missiles or interceptors used in this system is 300 km. The interceptors used in this system can intercept and destroy the incoming missile as high as 15 km from the ground.
The last layer is Iron Dome. This Iron Dome system mainly uses short-range missiles or interceptors. The missiles or interceptors used in this system have a range of 70 km and they can hit missiles or objects launched by the enemy at a height of up to 10 km from the ground.
