The police arrested 19 people from two former upazila vice-chairmen, Awami League and Jubo League, in raids in Narsingdi's Shibpur, Belab, Raipura and Palal in the incident in which four students, including students, were killed in the anti-discrimination student movement.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Shahidul Islam Sohag confirmed the matter on Wednesday night.

The arrested are- former vice chairman of Belab Upazila Parishad and current president of Patuli Union Awami League Moniruzzaman Jahangir (60), former vice chairman of Shibpur Upazila Parishad and organizing secretary of district Jubo League Nipun Khan (42), general secretary of Shibpur Municipal Jubo League Billal Hossain (45), Raipura Upazila Awami League general secretary Imam Uddin Bhuiyan (55), Palash Jinardi Union Parishad member and Awami League leader Sohel Mia, 19 people.

Afzal Hossain told reporters that eight people from Shibpur and Belab upazilas have been arrested in connection with the attack on the anti-discrimination student movement in the Itakhola bus stand area of ​​the Dhaka-Sylhet highway last July, in which four people, including a student, were killed. Further legal proceedings are underway by handing them over to the court.


Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station Abdul Jabbar told reporters that Raipura Upazila Awami League General Secretary Imam Uddin Bhuiyan has been arrested and handed over to Sadar Police Station in a murder case of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Shahidul Islam Sohag said that a total of 19 people have been arrested in the district in various cases. They were arrested in separate raids.
