Former Justice Zeenat Ara is the Chairman of the Law Commission

Zeenat Ara, former judge of the Appellate Division, has become the chairman of the Law Commission. A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Law appointing him on Wednesday.

Zeenat Ara, former judge of the Appellate Division, has become the chairman of the Law Commission. A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Law appointing him on Wednesday.

He retired from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on March 12, 2020. Zeenat Ara was the second woman judge of the Appellate Division.

The notification said, 'In virtue of the powers conferred by sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 5 of the Law Commission Act, 1996 (Act No. 19 of 1996), the Government, from the date of appointment of former Justice Zeenat Ara, for the next 3 (three) Appointed to the post of Chairman of the Law Commission for the year. While holding that position, he will receive the salary, allowances and other benefits due to the judge of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Zeenat Ara joined Judicial Department as Munsafe on 3 November 1978 after passing B.Sc and LLB. He was promoted as District and Sessions Judge on 15 September 1995.

Then on April 27, 2003, he was appointed to the High Court as an additional judge. And on April 27, 2005, he became a permanent judge of the High Court. Then on October 9, 2018, Zeenat Ara took charge as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
