An Awami League leader named Abdul Latif was arrested by the police in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Latif is accused No. 57 of the murder case of Monir Hossain, who was killed in the student movement.

He is the legal affairs secretary of Siddhirganj Thana Awami League and a member of Narayanganj district A. League supported lawyers forum. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station Al Mamun confirmed that the local crowd arrested him on Wednesday and handed him over to the police.

Locals said that in the afternoon Abdul Latif was severely beaten by a group accusing him of land grabbing. Later he was handed over after calling the police.


According to the police, Abdul Latif is accused in the murder case of Monir Hossain (56), who was shot during the anti-discrimination student movement. On August 20, a murder case was filed in the name of 123 people including him in the Monir Hossain murder case.

Meanwhile, the arrested Abdul Latif's wife said that a party was occupying their purchased land and building a house. When he went to see the matter, he was beaten and sent to the police station.
