The building where the airstrike took place is located in Bachora. The multi-story building was a health center, frequented by the Iran-backed Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
The Israeli military confirmed the attack on that building.
This is the first time that an Israeli attack has taken place in the center of Beirut, especially so close to the Lebanese Parliament. The place where the attack took place is just a few meters away from Parliament.
Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that 8 of its soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon. The attack took place in Lebanon immediately after the announcement.
However, this was Israel's first loss since launching a ground campaign against Hezbollah. This is the first time Israel attacked the center of Beirut. They had previously been attacking mainly southern Beirut.
