Jumbangla Desk: Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim is coming to Dhaka today. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will welcome him when he arrives at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:30 PM.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will be accompanied by a 58-member delegation comprising Malaysian cabinet members, ministers, parliamentarians and senior government officials.

After the formalities at the airport, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will be taken to the Hotel Intercontinental in a motorcade. There he will have a one-to-one meeting with the chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Later, the two leaders will hold talks at the bilateral level where a wide range of issues of mutual interest are expected to dominate, including economic cooperation, political relations, trade and investment, labor migration, education, technology, infrastructure development and defense cooperation.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain told a press conference here recently that the meeting will seek Malaysia's assistance in dealing with the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis. It is also expected to advance its aspirations to become a 'Sectoral Dialogue Partner' within the ASEAN framework.


A joint statement will be given later as per the itinerary.

According to the announced schedule, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, President Md. Bangabhaban. Meet Sahabuddin. Anwar Ibrahim is the first head of government to congratulate the interim government after assuming office.

The Malaysian Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Dhaka at around 6pm after the short visit.

This will be the first high-level visit by a foreign head of government since the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus assumed power after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
