The price of eggsJumbangla Desk: The government had fixed the price of eggs in the retail market two weeks ago. According to that, retail eggs are supposed to be sold at 11 taka 87 paisa per piece. But each piece of egg is being sold at 15 taka in the market. And a dozen of eggs are supposed to be sold at 143 taka, and are being sold at 180 taka in the market.

Although the buyers are angry about the price of eggs, the sellers do not care about it. Buyers said that the price of eggs per dozen has increased by Tk 10 in the last two days.

Yesterday he was seen visiting different markets of the capital and talking to buyers and sellers. The traders claim that the traders of Tejgaon are increasing the prices by syndicating.

It has been seen that brown eggs are being sold at 180 taka per dozen in the market, which is about 37 taka more than the price fixed by the government. On the other hand, a dozen of farm chicken white eggs are being sold at Tk 180 in most markets. Somewhere, however, 10 rupees is available. A dozen white eggs in the market last week were Tk 155 to Tk 160. In other words, the price of eggs has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 25 per dozen within a week.

Talking to consumers, they are very angry. They claim that a strong syndicate is still working in the egg market. Despite the fall of Awami League, the current government is unable to control the market. If not, why was the government not effective even after 15 days of fixing the price?

A buyer named Ashraful Islam lamented and said, for those like us who cannot eat fish and meat regularly, eggs were the hope. Now I see day by day its price has started increasing. There is no one to see them.

Abdul Awal, a resident of Paschim Bhashantek of the capital, said, 'Buy eggs as an alternative to fish and meat. As the price is increasing, eggs should also be avoided. The prices of all vegetables are also out of reach. Once we could have one meal with dal and alu bharta, but due to the price of potatoes, we have to give up eating alu bharta.'

Regarding the shortage of eggs in the market, small farmers say that there is actually no shortage. Rather, corporate organizations and traders in Tejgaon are increasing the prices by syndicate.

President of Bangladesh Poultry Association Suman Howladar said that there is no shortage of eggs in the country. Production in some areas has reduced due to floods, but production has remained normal in other areas. Corporate and Tejgaon wholesalers are increasing the prices by syndicate. If syndicates are brought under law, the market will be normalized and small farmers will get the price. By doing this, the people can eat at a lower price.
