Jumbangla Desk: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim set foot in Dhaka on Friday on a short visit to take the relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia to a new height. He was given a red carpet reception.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with a delegation of 58 members at 2 pm today.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed him.
He was honored with song salute and guard of honour.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain and High Commissioner of Malaysia and Bangladesh were also present at the airport.
After almost a decade, a Prime Minister of Malaysia visited Bangladesh. This is the first visit of a head of government of Bangladesh after the formation of the interim government on August 8.
From the airport he was taken directly to Hotel Intercontinental.
A bilateral meeting of Prime Minister Ibrahim and Chief Adviser will be held at the same hotel.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said the meeting is expected to highlight areas of mutual interest including economic, political, trade and investment, education, technology and human resource development, manpower export, higher education support, communication, infrastructure development and defense cooperation.
The two leaders will also have a private meeting before the bilateral talks.
Professor Yunus will host a tea-breakfast event in honor of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia President Md. Will also meet Sahabuddin.
A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told UNB that the Malaysian Prime Minister will also meet President Mohammad Sahabuddin at Banga Bhavan. He will sign the visitor's book there.
In January 2025, Malaysia is going to be the next chairman of ASEAN and the Rohingya issue will also be discussed.
Apart from this, the issue of Bangladesh being a 'Sectoral Dialogue Partner' in ASEAN in terms of regional cooperation will also be specially raised.
The foreign adviser said that this visit is very important in terms of bilateral relations.
The adviser said that the visit is expected to be considered as a manifestation of the deepening of bilateral relations and sustainable friendship between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The 58-member delegation includes the Malaysian Prime Minister along with the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Trade and Investment, Deputy Minister of Transport, Deputy Minister of Religion, two Members of Parliament and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Last August Professor Yunus invited him to visit Bangladesh soon to further strengthen the brotherly relationship between the two countries.

Malaysia is the eighth largest investor in Bangladesh.
Anwar Ibrahim personally congratulated his old friend Professor Muhammad Yunus by calling him after he took over as the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh last August.
Malaysia has a long-standing good relationship with Professor Yunus.
The Malaysian Prime Minister said, 'I assured him that Malaysia is ready to support and assist the interim government in restoring peace and security in Bangladesh.'
