Deceased Zafar Ali Khan (45) is the son of Munsur Ali Khan of North Charail village of Kathalia upazila in neighboring district Jhalkathi.

Inspector (OC Investigation) of Bhandaria police station Milan Mondal said that after attending a janaza in East Matibhanga village of Bhandaria upazila on Wednesday evening, his friend Mizanur Rahman, son of Jalil Howladar of East Bhandaria village, and his associates attacked him with sharp weapons on his way home. He was rescued from there in critical condition and died on the way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The wife of the deceased, Polly Akhtar, said that her husband Zafar had a friendly relationship with the killer Mizan. They used to travel to each other's house regularly. At some point, Mizan developed a relationship with Zafar's wife and Mizan married her 3-4 years ago. This caused an extreme conflict between Jafar and Mizan.

As a result of this incident, Mizan and his associates attacked Zafar with sharp weapons on his way home from Mizan's village on Wednesday after attending the funeral. He was then hacked and seriously injured. The assailants fled when the locals rushed to his call. Then he died on the way to Barisal.
