Ginger

Agricultural entrepreneur Md. showed this commercial interest in ginger cultivation in Adhuna village of Gournadi upazila of Barisal. Al Masood.

He said, I have always been interested in producing imported agricultural products in the country. Especially every year importing ginger consumes a lot of foreign exchange and the price is very high. So the country's foreign exchange cost is less. For that purpose, I have started ginger cultivation in sacks. A good yield is obtained if this thing is planted in sacks.

He also said that there is a lot of damage if ginger is cultivated in monsoon. Due to which farmers do not become interested in ginger cultivation. But ginger cultivation in sack method is completely risk free. Because when any natural disaster including heavy rains and drought starts, the bags can be quickly moved to other places. As a result, the ginger plant is protected.

This year, the entrepreneur Al Masud said that 60-70 rupees were spent on each sack. Even if the yield of ginger is half a kg in each sack, we expect to make a profit excluding the cost.

Local journalists visited Masud's ginger field and said that under the mahogany trees, fresh ginger plants were seen in bags under the fresh condition. And there are two women and one male laborer in the care of ginger. Ginger is seen at the base of every tree. On the proper advice of the Agriculture Department, ginger plants have grown in sacks in mud-water during the monsoons.

They said that ginger cultivation in sack method is new in Gournadi area.

Rahat Howladar, the new agricultural entrepreneur of that village, said that ginger cultivation by sack method has created new possibilities in agriculture. So I come here every day and learn farming methods. In the future, I will cultivate ginger on my own unused land.

Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Upazila Agriculture Office. Moniruzzaman said that there is no need for separate land for ginger cultivation in sack method. Cultivation under the tree can be carried out using bags or nets. This year an agricultural entrepreneur has cultivated experimental ginger. The farmer is being regularly visited to his ginger garden to provide advisory support. As this cultivation method is easy, other agricultural entrepreneurs will become interested in ginger cultivation in this upazila in the future.
