Bangladesh National Chess Champion Manon Reza Neer became International Master. Neer defeated India's international master Panda Sambit in the eighth round of the Grandmasters chess tournament in Budapest, Hungary on Friday. He got an international master norm as he scored six points in eight rounds.
International Master
International Master requires 2400 rating and three norms. Manan Reza Nest's rating is already 2450. The nest already had two norms. He has fulfilled all the conditions to become an international master by getting the third norm on Friday.
Arbiter of Bangladesh Chess Federation Harunor Rashid confirmed the International Master of Nest. "With today's win Neer has achieved another norm as an international master," he said.
Neer became an international master at the age of 15. Niaz Morshed, the first grandmaster of the subcontinent, also received the International Master title at the age of 15.
Meanwhile, the number of international masters in chess in Bangladesh now stands at five through Nest. They are Zillur Rahman Champak, Abu Sufian Shakeel, Minhaj Uddin Sagar, Fahad Rahman and Manan Reza Nir. Among these five, Fahad Rahman has a GM norm. Fahad is also playing this tournament in Hungary. Fahad has the potential to become another GM norm if he wins the last round on Saturday.
