Jumbangla Desk: At least 36 Maoists have been killed in a 'gunfight' with security forces in India's Chhattisgarh. Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P. said the gunfight took place on Friday (October 4) during a joint operation against ultra-leftist groups.

 

Hindustan Times reported that the security forces conducted the operation in a forest in Dantewada district, the heart of the state. The 'gunfight' between the two sides started around 1 pm local time.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai had earlier informed that around 30 Maoists were killed in the 'gunfight'. In this regard, this year more than 185 Maoists have been killed in separate 'gunfights' in the Bastar region comprising of 7 districts including Dantewada, Narayanpur, police said.
