BSC Managing Director Commodore Mahmudul Malek said this at a press conference in Chittagong on Saturday.
BSC director said, it is feared that this sabotage has been carried out to endanger the energy security of the country. After the fire in Bangla Jyoti, the investigators were proceeding with sabotage in mind. Along with this, a fire drill was conducted in Sourav of Bengal to prevent the recurrence of the incident. No repair work was going on in this ship.
Mahmudul Malek also said that the rescued crew reported that they saw sparks in four places at the front of the ship suddenly last night. At that time, a speedboat was seen moving away from the ship, they said. This sabotage could lead to disrupting the country's energy security.
Incidentally, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation uses 'Banglar Jyoti' and 'Banglar Sourav' to discharge oil from large vessels at outer anchorage. At around 12:50 last night, the Sourav Bangla, which was anchored outside, caught fire.
The ship was supposed to arrive at Chittagong port this morning with oil. One person who jumped into the sea after the fire died. Apart from this, 47 crew and workers were rescued by Coast Guard and Navy.
Earlier on Monday morning, there was a fire in Chittagong Port after an explosion in Bangla Jyoti. Three people were killed in that incident.
