Campaign to stop the production of polythene bags from November 1

Jumbangla Desk: Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Farhina Ahmed said that the campaign against the producers of polythene shopping bags will start from November 1. The team will be formed by the Directorate of Environment, Directorate of Consumer Affairs, Directorate of Food and District Administration Magistrate. The government will stop the production, marketing and use of polythene with the cooperation of the public. To stop polythene shopping bags completely, buyers and sellers must ensure the use of eco-friendly bags.
This was said by the chief guest in the discussion meeting held in the office room of the association with members of the Shantinagar market committee and businessmen's association of the capital on Saturday (October 05) to stop the banned polythene shopping bags.
The environment secretary said that for the last 22 years polythene has been being used in violation of the law, which is not correct. Due to polythene, the risk of other diseases including cancer and liver is increasing. The decision to ban polythene should be followed by all to protect public health and public interest. The secretary said that the use of polythene is a serious threat to the country's environment and to be free from its harmful effects, government restrictions must be strictly followed. He urged both sellers and buyers to refrain from using banned polythene.
Additional Secretary (Environment) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change spoke among others in the exchange meeting held under the chairmanship of Shantinagar Market Management Committee President Mujibul Haque. Fahmida Khanam, Deputy Secretary Siddharth Shankar Kundu, Deputy Director of Environment Department Abdullah Al Mamun and General Secretary of Market Committee Lokman Hossain Fakir and others.
After the meeting, the secretary and market committee leaders visited various shops in Shantinagar market and encouraged the traders to increase the use of alternative eco-friendly bags.
