International Desk: Israel's missile defense system 'Iron Dome' has been discussed for many years. However, after Iran's nearly 200 missile attacks on Israel on October 1, 'Iron Dome' has come into discussion again. Iran claims that nearly 90 percent of the missiles hit Israel by evading Israel's defense systems. On the other hand, Israel claims that they have been able to destroy most of the missiles fired by Iran using the Iron Dome defense system.

Although there are questions about how effective Iron Dome is, the world's most powerful countries have focused on improving their defense systems. Indian media India Today reported that India, surrounded by missile power neighbors like China and Pakistan, does not have the Iron Dome but has a very strong defense system. For example, India has Prithvi Air Defense or PAD and Advanced Air Defense or AAD defense systems.

Among them, PADs can destroy enemy country's missiles before they enter the atmosphere. And the AAD can destroy the missile after it crosses the atmosphere.

Apart from this, India signed an agreement in 2018 to buy S-400 missile system from Russia. India believes that it will be able to destroy China's hypersonic missiles through this. Russia has already handed over three squadrons to India. They can intercept targets up to 400 km and at altitudes of up to 30 km.

Last year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said in an interview that the S-400 and S-500 long-range air defense systems are capable of destroying hypersonic missiles.

Security analysts say India's surface-to-air missile system can intercept aerial targets at a range of up to 30 km. Although it is not designed for ballistic missile defense, it can intercept slower missiles.

In 2021, the Indian Air Force inducted the Barak-8 medium-range surface-to-air missile system. This defense system is capable of repelling air strikes from enemy fighter jets, missiles, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles within a range of 70 km.

India and Israel jointly developed this defense system. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh referred to this capability as a 'game changer' in Indian air defence.
