In a letter signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Finance Department on September 29, the recommendation of the Currency and Design Advisory Committee of Bangladesh Bank has been sought. A final design proposal has been directed to be sent to the ministry as soon as possible based on the committee's proposal.

According to sources, it will take around 6 months to prepare the new design, where 4 different designs will be submitted for each note. After that it may take about 2 years for the new notes to be introduced in the market. The existing banknotes will gradually be replaced with new notes.

Officials of the central bank said that there is a possibility of removing the image of Bangabandhu from all types of banknotes.

Currently, all paper notes in Bangladesh carry Bangabandhu's image, and even metal coins carry his portrait.
Meanwhile, the common people of the country and various circles have been discussing the design of the new banknotes. Sources in the Finance Ministry said that if the government wanted to put Sheikh Mujib's picture on the bank notes, there would have been no need to print new design notes. Wanted new design means Sheikh Mujib's picture will not be there.
