Zoom-Bangla Desk: There has been a strong discussion for some time now whether there will be student politics in Dhaka University (DU). Even in the emergency syndicate meeting of the university on September 19, the issue of banning student politics was strongly discussed. However, after discussions at various stages, the university administration has so far taken a stand in favor of not stopping student politics.

Regarding student politics, Kal Kantha discussed with Dhaka University administration, syndicate members, student leaders and other people at various levels.

They said that student politics is not stopping in Dhaka University now. However, they want to get out of the prevailing student politics. For this, a major logical reform will be brought in the politics of students and teachers. Parliament elections will be launched with Daksusah.

DU Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Saima Haque Bidisha said, 'We are discussing with various stakeholders. Discussions are still ongoing. We will decide on this based on everyone's opinion. Just as different circles bring different demands at different times, so there are demands to ban student politics.

Many people are not asking for a direct ban, many are asking to start Daksu, hall parliamentary elections. Many are talking about the reform of student politics. We will take a decision after hearing everyone's opinion.'

On September 21, Dhaka University administration held a meeting with the leaders of 10 active student organizations. Leaders of various student organizations including Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (Basad), Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (Marxist), Chhatra Federation (Mass Solidarity), Democratic Student Council participated in it.

In the meeting, the leaders agreed to reform student politics without banning it. At this time, they demanded to start the Student Parliament election soon.

One of the 9-point demands that the students made at one stage of the quota reform movement was banning partisan politics on university campuses.

The Awami League government fell on August 5 in the face of the student movement. After that, a group of students held a protest march and assembly in the university campus demanding an end to party politics. However, leaders of various activist student organizations say that student politics needs to be reformed rather than banned. Then the fear of student politics among ordinary students will disappear.

Dean of Faculty of Arts Prof. Siddiqur Rahman Khan said, "There was a discussion about student politics in the university's syndicate meeting, but no decision was taken." It was misrepresented. Later, the university administration held discussions with various stakeholders and student organization leaders. They said it needed to be a logical solution, not closed.'

Professor Md. Siddiqur Rahman Khan said, 'The monstrous character of student politics we have seen in a decade and a half has created a negative attitude of ordinary students. But banning student politics is not a solution in the reality of Bangladesh and subcontinent. Those who will do student politics should be accountable. For that, it is necessary to hold parliamentary elections and Daksu elections. Students should not join any party, student politics should not be used to implement someone's agenda. For this, student politics can continue through a logical reform.'

Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary of DU Chhatra Dal, said, 'Language movement, mass uprising, liberation war, anti-dictatorship movement and any logical movement and lastly this student uprising has also been created from Dhaka University. If Dhaka University stops, if Dhaka University lags behind, then Bangladesh will lag behind. If there is no political practice in Dhaka University, then there will be no political practice in Bangladesh. For this, Dhaka University needs a healthy trend, healthy thinking politics. Student politics should be student-centered, through this politics, freedom of thought should be practiced.

DU Student Camp Secretary SM Farhad said, 'Student political activities will be held only to ensure the rights of students, to improve the skills of students or to cooperate with students. Student organization cannot do any administrative work or any work of imposing control Apart from this, there will be intellectual competition between the student organizations, no muscle competition. If this primary reform can be done in student politics, then student politics will change radically.
