After 44 years of imam, he cried with joy at such love of the worshippers. Local residents also said that this is the first such royal farewell of Imam in the history of Matlab North.


On Saturday (October 5) afternoon, the local people were busy with various arrangements to bid farewell to the imam in Shikarikandi village of Durgapur union of the upazila. Carriages are arranged. Meals for worshipers are arranged. After the reception in the morning, the 74-year-old Imam of Jame Masjid was taken by the hands of the local people in a horse carriage.


Before getting into the horse cart, he apologized for his mistakes to the present devotees and locals for the last time. Later, the locals took him to his home in Kachuaya Upazila on a horse-drawn carriage in a motorcycle procession.


Earlier in the morning, the pilgrims gave cash to the departed Imam of the mosque, Maulana Abdul Khalek, on behalf of the local residents. In addition to this, the Imam was taken in a horse carriage in the presence of hundreds of worshippers. A fleet of motorcycles was brought back and forth to Imam's home with various slogans.


Outgoing Imam Maulana Abdul Khalek said, I have been leading this mosque since 1980. I am truly touched to be given so much love and respect at the end of 44 years. He commented that such arrangements should be made in every mosque.

Treasurer of the mosque committee. Salim said, this is the first such royal farewell reception for the Imam in Matlab North. Before this, no imam has ever been dismissed in this way in the upazila.


President of the mosque committee Alhaj Sheikh Nazrul Islam said, today is a day of pain for us. Because I am saying goodbye to my soulmate, who has enlightened us with 44 years of dualistic education.
