International Desk: According to a report by Malaysian local media Cosmo Online and Sinar Harian, these immigrants were arrested in a coordinated operation in the state of Selangor on Saturday (October 5) at 12 noon local time.

At least 602 (male and female) immigrants aged 19 to 55 years without valid documents were arrested during the verification of documents of 1 thousand 91 foreigners. Selangor Minister Datu Seri Amiruddin Sari told Malaysia's The Star Online that among the 602 arrested, 213 men and 1 woman are Bangladeshis.

Apart from Bangladeshis, those arrested include citizens of Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Algeria. They were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966 and Immigration Regulations 1963 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

The minister also said that operational planning was being done since last March after seeing the trend of presence of foreigners in this area. The initial results were surprising. More than 60 percent of the 1,911 foreigners were illegal immigrants.
They cite various reasons for fleeing, leaving behind passports or personal documents, some saying they have been tricked.

He also warned that operations will continue in places where foreigners are staying illegally.
