Jumbangla Desk: At least 80 villages of Haluaghat and Dhobaura upazilas bordering Mymensingh have been flooded due to continuous rains and landslides. Millions of people are trapped in water. Homes, rural roads and educational institutions have sunk. The surrounding fish has been washed away. About four thousand hectares of crops have been submerged.

It is known that since last Thursday evening, the water of four rivers bordering Haluaghat has flowed over the border due to continuous rain and hill slopes. Areas along the banks of Darsha, Menangchra, Borarghat and Sheola rivers were inundated. During the night, the river broke the dam at different places and the water overflowed the dam and entered the locality at a high speed.

Haluaghat upazila executive officer Ershadul Ahmed said that about 25 thousand people are stuck in water in the upazila. Relief is being distributed. Four shelters have been opened. Thousands of people have taken shelter there.

Dhobaura upazila executive officer Nishat Sharmin said, the house has been destroyed. I got the information of 30 such families. They have been given shelter.

Executive Engineer of Mymensingh Water Development Board Akhlaq Ul Jamil said that many villages have been flooded in two upazilas. Initiatives will be taken to repair damaged dams at those places.

Meanwhile, in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha, the water level of Teesta river is rising due to continuous heavy rains and inflow from upstream. The lower region is drowning in it. Besides, extensive erosion has occurred in various pastures. Water has risen in eight upazilas of Noakhali due to continuous rain for 24 hours from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening. People are trapped in water in several areas. Many are running to shelters.
