Jumbangla Desk: The Interim Government of Bangladesh has announced to make new notes of 20 Taka, 100 Taka, 500 Taka and 1000 Taka. Note that the new notes will not have Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's photo.
The Ministry of Finance and Bangladesh Bank informed that the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be removed from the current design. Initially four notes will be redesigned. Officials said that changes will be made in other notes later.
In a letter from the Ministry of Finance on September 29, Bangladesh Bank was instructed to submit a detailed design proposal for the new notes. The Central Bank's Currency and Design Advisory Committee will play an important role in evaluating and recommending these changes.
It is said in the notification that Bangladesh Bank has accepted the recommendation of the Currency and Design Advisory Committee and requested to send the specific proposal to the Finance Department as soon as possible.
All banknotes and coins in circulation during the regime of former Sheikh Hasina have the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which has been decided to be deleted. Presently all paper notes from 2 taka to 1000 taka bear his picture.-UNB
